Domestic Violence Help and Resources in Adams County, Colorado

By Toni Garcia, Publisher & Editor October 31, 2017

Let's talk about something that is uncomfortable but all too real. Domestic violence. It touches every region of the country and is a topic that is easy to brush off unless you're involved in it. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (www.ncdav.org) 1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence. In addition to this, it's reported that 60% of women have suffered abuse at some point in their life and 29% reported they've been in an abusive relationship.

If you are being abused by your partner, know there is nothing you have done or are doing to cause the abuse. It is solely the choice of the abuser to abuse. It may seem impossible to escape your abuser, change your circumstances, or find the help you need, but it is possible. However, you know your abuser best, so think carefully through your situation and circumstances and do what is the best for you.

If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1.

For anonymous, confidential help, 24/7, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) or 1-800-787-3224 (TTY).
