Special Olympics Colorado to Host Plane Pull Fundraiser in Broomfield

Annual event back at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport with a 65,000 lb Gulfstream IV

By Ben Theune, Sr. Director of Marketing for Special Olympics Colorado August 12, 2021

Special Olympics Colorado (SOCO), Colorado’s premiere sports organization for

individuals with intellectual disabilities, is pleased to host a unique Plane Pull fundraiser in Broomfield at Rocky

Mountain Metro Airport on Saturday, August 28th.

An annual fan favorite among supporters of Special Olympics Colorado, the Plane Pull presented by The Smile Generation

will be held on the tarmac at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, Colorado on Saturday, August 28th.

This unique and exciting event pits socially distanced teams of 15 up against a 65,000-pound Gulfstream IV jet aircraft

sponsored by Wheels Up. Teams compete in categories and the team that pulls the plane 15 feet across the tarmac in

the shortest amount of time receives a trophy. Fundraising and best team costume trophies will also be awarded.

Nearly 1,500 participants and spectators are expected to gather in phases throughout the day to celebrate inclusion and

raise critical funds for Special Olympics Colorado. All will enjoy a family-friendly event with food, a beer garden for

participants 21 years and older, vendors with giveaways, VIP Lounge sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, games on the

stage sponsored by UPS, and great music to keep the party going.

“The Plane Pull continues to be a favorite among our supporters and athletes alike,” stated Special Olympics Colorado

President and CEO, Megan Scremin. “Our community showed an incredible level of support during the 2020 event, and

we can’t wait to return for another outstanding day!”

Teams of 15 are asked to fundraise a minimum of $1,000/team and the proceeds raised will provide sport and healthy

living opportunities for more than 15,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities in Colorado. All participants will receive an

official Plane Pull shirt and individuals have the option to earn fundraising incentives like a “fly by” pass and VIP Lounge

access.
