Currently under construction in Thornton, the New Discovery Magnet School will offer up to 350 students from across the district access to a science-focused, problem-based learning curriculum beginning in fall 2023 when it opens its doors.
“Problem-based learning is simply a different bridge for our students,” said Discovery Magnet School Principal Sheri Collier, EdD. “It puts the problem first, and then the learning experiences that move towards that problem so not having one answer to all of our questions. We want the problems the students are working toward to be authentic to them, to have meaning to them, to really drive them to want to learn to solve that problem.”
Students who attend the Discovery Magnet School will be selected for enrollment through a lottery-based enrollment process that will provide opportunities for students from across the district to attend the school with transportation shuttles offered.
The enrollment application window for the Discovery Magnet School will run from Dec. 1, 2022 through Jan. 20, 2023 with families notified of their enrollment status by Jan. 25, 2023.
