Congratulations, Chief Domenico!

January 4, 2023

Selected after a nationwide search and process that allowed for input from Brighton Police Department staff, the Fraternal Order of Police, the District Attorney’s Office, community stakeholders, and city leadership, the City of Brighton appoints Matthew Domenico as Chief of Police for the Brighton Police Department.

Domenico has served the City of Brighton since 2004 and most recently was appointed interim police chief since October, following the retirement of Chief Paul Southard. Domenico was also the former deputy chief of police for the City as well as a detective, a patrol and investigations sergeant, and a patrol commander.

City Manager Michael Martinez stated, "Chief Domenico brings more than 18 years of dedicated law enforcement experience to this position. He has proven leadership abilities, a track record of instituting proactive policing strategies, and a commitment to the safety of our residents.” “He has a strong work ethic and has earned the respect from the community and his peers and I am excited to have him lead the department.”
